Back in March 2014 on Bitcointalk, a dev named “Mr-alex” was about to launch his coin when someone in the comments pointed out that the ticker MMC was already taken.
In true early crypto fashion, he said f*ck it and changed the name on the spot — because “my cat name is mimi”.
That random, chaotic name change instantly turned it into a meme. He renamed it Mimicoin, posted the announcement with the happy cat logo, added a bounty for cat pictures, and called it a day.
Then… complete silence for 12 whole years.
The project vanished. The original logo disappeared from the internet after TinyPic was taken down. The thread went dead… until now.
The original logo can be traced back deep in the official Github (use button below and search “splash”)
Mimicoin is the real OG 2014 Bitcointalk cat coin — born from a spontaneous “my cat named Mimi” moment and one of the most beautifully stupid name changes in crypto history.
12 years later, the silence ends. Mimi is finally getting her bag on Pump.fun.
We decided to send him 100% of the Pumpfun fees. What if he catches wind of Mimicoin in 2026? What if a community member actually tracks him down? What if he never re-appears and the fees just disappear into the abyss forever?
Every great experiment needs an Achilles heel. This is ours

MMC / MIMI Announcement
The Birth of Mimicoin
12 Years of Silence
The original dev from 2014 who posted the thread on BitcoinTalk.
He launched mimicoin and dipped. Maybe he’s rich? Maybe he’s a crackhead now.
We’re sending 100% of the trading fees to the original developer’s GitHub account (Mr-alex) as a fun tribute to the lore.
Mimicoin was created in 2014 by Mr-alex because of his cat Mimi. After 12 years of total silence, we thought it would be poetic (and hilarious) to let the fees go back to the mysterious creator who started it all.
Whether he ever notices, logs in, or claims them… who knows? That uncertainty is now part of the meme.
Exactly. That’s part of the lore.
The original Tinypic link (i62.tinypic.com/detjfa.png) died many years ago when Tinypic shut down. The happy cat logo basically vanished from the internet for over a decade.
We managed to recover the splash screen version (the ginger kitten in the gold coin frame) from the old GitHub repo
So yes — the logo was actually gone for 12 years. We didn’t fake the dead link. It really died.
Absolutely not. Mimicoin has zero intrinsic value and was born from a chaotic “fuck it, my cat’s name” moment. This is pure meme, nostalgia, and emotional support for a happy cat.
Follow The Journey
Mimicoin is a meme coin. It has zero intrinsic value and was created because a cat got jealous in 2014. Buying this is not an investment — it's emotional support for a long-forgotten Bitcointalk cat. We are not responsible if Mimi makes you broke… or ridiculously rich. Meow at your own risk.
